2019 Lincoln Mkx New Review

The 2019 Lincoln MKC is available with a choice of two four-cylinder engines, both of which are turbocharged. Serving as the base powertrain is a 2.0-liter turbo-four rated at 24o hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. For more power, a 2.3-liter turbo-four produces 285 hp and 305 lb-ft. Both engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and the base powertrain is offered in front or all-wheel drive configurations. The 2.3-liter mill is only available with all-wheel drive. With an EPA-rated 21/28 mpg city/highway, the front-drive 2.o-liter powertrain is the most fuel efficient option. Adding all-wheel drive drops the figures to 19/25 mpg, while opting for the available stop-start feature improves combined city/highway EPA figure to 22 mpg (versus 21 mpg without stop-start). The MKC with the 2.3-liter turbo-four is rated at 18/25 mpg. Distinctive Lincoln styling cues include a butterfly grille, while the wraparound “clamshell”-style liftgate gives the rear end a sleek look.

The NHTSA gave the 2019 Lincoln MKC an overall rating of four out of five stars. Although the Lincoln earned top marks in the NHTSA’s side crash test, the luxury crossover was rated four stars in the frontal and rollover crash evaluations. Without a full series of tests performed, the MKC is not an IIHS Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ recipient, but the crossover did earn the highest score possible in side and moderate front overlap testing. The MKC also earn a Basic rating for its front collision prevention system, below the Advanced and Superior ratings. The MKC’s front collision prevention system is part of the optional Technology package that also includes an adaptive cruise control system, parking assist, and a lane-keeping assistance.

What We Think

The Lincoln MKC powered by the 2.0-liter turbo-four was included in a comparison that included the Volvo XC60, Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, BMW X3, and Lexus NX 200t. Even though the MKC was praised for its low MSRP and quiet cabin, it ranked fourth place due to its unrefined powertrain and handling characteristics. “Odd throttle response; sometimes very touchy, other times a bit laggy,” we noted.

Cool Fact

The 2019 MKC features a push-button transmission; the “R” and the “N” buttons light up sequentially when selecting the “D” position.
